Plumbing courses may help workers with new heating technology

A new low-cost method of heating water could mean engineers may benefit from taking plumbing courses to understand the new technological advance.

The environmentally-friendly device - called Solasyphon - has been created and sold by John Willis with his team at Willis Renewables.

It is a heat exchanger that is installed on the outside of a hot water cylinder and provides the equipment with energy from a solar heating panel - a process that workers may be able to find out more about in plumbing courses.

"We knew instinctively that we'd invented something that provided a real step change in the way that solar energy is produced," Mr Willis told BBC News, regarding the moment the product was created and tested.

The news provider reported that the Northern Ireland firm was recently recognised for the impact of its invention with an Ashden Award, which is an accolade handed to organisations that have helped advance the efficiency of sustainable energy.
